Calvary Chapel Oxford
Calvary Chapel Oxford Botley expository bible teaching missions worship

Calvary Chapel Oxford came into being in January 2001
under the call and direction of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord gave a very clear commission to Philip Vickery in the summer of 2000 to move to Oxford and establish a new local Church within the city that was committed to Expository Bible teaching . He obeyed this commission, and just 6 months later, Calvary Chapel Oxford held its first meeting on a Sunday night at Botley Community Centre Oxford. As the Lord had commanded, Philip immediately began to teach the gospel of Matthew one verse at a time.

The following year, the Lord brought alongside Chuck and Anita Saunders who had been serving as missionaries to the Philippines for the previous 14 years. They soon proved to be instrumental in the Lord's plans for the building of the Church.

Four years later, the teaching from the gospel of Matthew was completed and the Lord had laid within the Church a solid foundation. By this time, the Church had moved its Sunday meetings to Botley Primary School which continues to be its home to the present day.

We firmly believe and uphold that Jesus Christ builds his church and this has been the testimony of Calvary Chapel Oxford. Over the past 5 years the Lord has continued to build the church establishing a leadership of one Pastor/Teacher and five elders . The church has developed a very active missions department, Sunday School, Ladies Bible study group, three mid-week home groups and prayer meetings, a monthly Prayer for Israel meeting and weekly youth meeting.

Through it all, the Lord Jesus Christ has shown himself to be Head of the Church, the Lord of the harvest and indeed the Chief Shepherd of the sheep. We praise him and thank him for all that he has done and we look forward to seeing him bring to fulfilment all the plans he has laid for the city of Oxford in these coming days.
